The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Tragic Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.
White House Invitation
The president said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Community members assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was caring, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Service arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Steps and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The event prompted the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed the program that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” Morrisey told the gathering at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
