New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”
The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.
“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”
NYPD released surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries according to reports.
The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The assailant escaped.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn.
“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.
Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.
“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
