Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
